To ask or not to ask ?

The general rule of thumb of tackling a question that you don't know is to find for the answers either by looking up for informations that you know where to find or ask people who know the answers.

What I encounter in work is :

If you don't know the answer, don't know where to find the answer and don't look for the answer by asking people you are totally DOOM if anything goes wrong. Agree ? Ok, there's no excuse for that and I agree with it.

How about this, if the preceptor told you that there will be no spoon feeding from him in the first place but then if you have any questions you may ask, which of his words that you should follow? In a case of you don't know the answer but you know exactly where to seek for answer from a protocol reference book, right just before you managed to get the answer from the protocol the preceptor ask you questions and intimidate you why didn't you ask him the questions how would you reply? Telling the truth that you are about to get the answer from the protocol but instead you get a very intimidating word 狡辩 (sophistry/quibble), saying that you are not serious in clerking case and refused to accept any of you truthful answers.

Now I really don't know what should I do in handling this kind of people, only solution seems to be keep your mouth shut and reply with a smile... what to do, he is the one who judge your performance, work sxxks !

First day working !

Although this is not the first time I work for money in my life, but today is officially the date when I am working FULL TIME and waiting for my first ever paycheck.

One thing that I am sure everyone posted to Seberang Jaya training/placement will remember for his or her life was there are plenty of forms to fill up, until you can write your name, I.C. number, birthday, and house address for not less than 20 times. Thus, it is not working to be precise but I will still get my salary paid started counting since today haha.

If got chance I will ask the governemtn why do we have to fill up so many forms ? Too much paper, energy and time ? Shouldn't that all the systems be integrated into a computer so that we can copy and paste :P ? Even the punch-card system had been replaced by a fingerprint recognizing sensor at Jabatan Kesihatan Negeri Pulau Pinang and Hospital Seberang Jaya, as far as I remember, HKL is still using the old punch-card system... I was really impressed by that haha, but that means I cannot be late and ask somebody else to punch card for me.

Now I am in a dilemma, if I am able to remain at Hospital Pulau Pinang after PRP, it will save me a lot of petrol money and time on traveling across the Penang bridge with insane traffic jam prior to and after office hour. However the more hectic workplace in Penang GH and as told by some trustworthy sources it has a complicated personal relationship between staff makes me think twice. Perhaps it is better to just rent a room at Seberang Jaya during my FRP years.

Anyway, I am quite happy and satisfy to be able to get a good hospital and desired placement in Penang state. Good luck to all of B104ian, wish we all can make IMU BPharm pioneer batch to shine all over Malaysia, and establish ourselves as the best pharmacist graduates even we are from private university which is not as well known as USM.

Debt Consolidation

Although many advise against it, personal loan from family and friends can be a real option if the situation so demands. Just carefully choose any one from the above mentioned debt consolidation options and get out of debt as quickly as you can.

In case your debt is quite large, it is better to seek debt settlement advice than negotiating with creditors on your own. In fact, creditors themselves will prefer the intervention of a debt settlement company if the amount you owe is quite big. As the market seems full of such companies, you will have to choose the right one from them that suits your budget and requirements. While there are some companies for profit, there are non-profit ones as well in the market.

How to make your blog to be famous worldwide?

Everyone who blog will dream of having thousands of visitors to read his post daily. There are many ways to become famous, either start off with some really funny posting like posting a self-made World Cup 2006 football using things that only women will use, or be a famous politics blogger claiming some big shoot C4 a pretty lady and risk being caught under ISA, or post your naked photo if only you are as pretty as Linda Chung.

Recently I find out one of the way to get famous is ... through bashing pharmacists ! Yeah, you just need to say anything bad about a pharmacist and your blog will be famous worldwide. One of the example is the blog by Jason Liew, a blogger from Malaysia who posted a blog titled "Why I dislike Male Pharmacist in Malaysia" in November 2006, that's right, it was a 2 year-old blog and it had got unwelcoming reception all over the US and Europe until today. How did I found his blog ? Simple, search google for "respect pharmacist" and then you got his blog ranking number 6 on the first page of search results.

Apparently he is very piss off with the pharmacist for taking too good care of his girlfriend because she was asking for antibiotics to treat long term ear infections and the pharmacist advice her to see a doctor instead. It seems that her girlfriend is a burden to him and what he want is to get whatever medications his gf needs but not Caring (the pharmacy name) enough to treat or even cure her. In his writing, it can be suspected that he is a man with too much of ego and manly-hood or whatever it is called, if you are a male pharmacist you must got balls to break the law to dispense antibiotic without prescription and the way he specify male pharmacist must venture into business or else you are second class worthless people was really disappointing. He judge a person with the amount of money they make, and discriminate against female. In his point of view, if you are a male pharmacist earning less than 10k per month, you are not worthy to be respected. And if you are female pharmacist, you are deemed to capable of working your whole life in hospital for a stable and secure job only, leave the business to man.

Although he didn't attract thousands of visitors per day I presumed, it seems that he managed to bring shame on himself and become a laughing stock worldwide. No wonder sometimes I heard people said Malaysian leave on a tree, now I know why...

PS3 launching in Malaysia

Sony Malaysia has finally confirmed the official launch event of Sony PlayStation 3 at One Utama, Petaling Jaya on 20th September 2008.

The launch bundle is limited to the first 120 people that lined up on the launch day and it will consist of :

Ahmad Ismail, big mouth, big balls !

Watching your show is more interesting and dramatic than watching "Tang Xing Feng Bao" 溏心風暴 (Heart Of Greed). First you say Chinese people are squatters who "tumpang" in this country, then you change your words to saying Sin Chew reporter misquoted your words by mentioning what you meant was Chinese people were squatters before Malaya's independence. Who would believe in what you said?

Assume that the reporter really misquoted your words, then why did you brought up this history during a speech for Permatang Pauh by-election ? I tried to believe in what you said that you are not racist and innocent, but many people and I with a brain to think would be foolish to believe in your words. What is the point of bringing up this history ? It doesn't seems to be helpful in gaining votes either from Malay or non-Malay and it had been proven in the election result. Instead, one can only think of you bring out this issue to show that you have an outdated thinking, extremist who tried to stir up hatred among the Malay and the Chinese, and just another selfish Malay politician who think about own gain or benefit at the same time dreaming of becoming a hero in his fairyland.

I do not wish to debate on history since I am not a historian, but I believe many records have shown that the real son-of-the-soil is Orang Asli. There are even theory that state that Malay ancestors migrated from the Yun Nan, Southern part of China. Parameswara arrived in Melaka on year 1400 and in the middle of 15th century Hang Tuah along with the princess Hang Li Po and her servants arrived from China. Since then some Chinese people have assimilated with the local Malays and become Baba Nyonya until today. Saying Chinese people were only squatters after having almost 450 years of history of staying in Malaysia even before Malaya's Independence day is purely an insult.

Ahmad Ismail also questioned that if Malay stay in Chinese people house, do you expect the Chinese people to treat the Malay fairly and also distribute their wealth fairly among them ? To me, it doesn't seem right to ask people to give away their hard earned money to you when you didn't put in effort to deserve them. Rather than crying like a baby and whining why some (not all) Chinese people are wealthier than most (not including UMNO cronies) Malay, I bet he never think of how to teach the Malay to become rich by learning from successful businessman, books written by Robert Kiyosaki "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" , which is a hard way, obviously he only knows to teach Malay to be jealous of other people wealth and think of only easy way to become rich. I would like to questioned him will those UMNO cronies who earned millions of easy money through rent-seeking, AP, highway toll contract etc are willing share their wealth with poor Malays ?

Ahmad Ismail even compared Chinese with Jewish who tries to gain control of both economy and politic. Jewish people are so successful in all around the world because they were taught about financial planning since young, a skill that you will never learn in school or university. Through the guidance of a good mentor and the will to listen and to learn is very important but Ahmad Ismail will never understand this because he is too ignorant to listen to anybody even the Prime Minister.

Ahmad Ismail, thank you for performing such an terrific show, I have never seen a person that is so brave to disobey his UMNO party chief. Pouring oil onto the fire when the Prime Minister ask you to put-out the fire is like a giving big slap onto the to the face of UMNO and BN leaders. I have to praise you, no matter what, you really have big balls ! Lets hope that it is not because of having malignant tumors inside it...

The biggest lie in this century

Thanks to our "efficient" BN government, I have been looking for things to do or informations that I wanted to know throughout this 4 months of free period. Despite 90% (or even more) of what I did on the internet is not related to my pharmacist profession, I am glad to be having the free time to look up on latest news in computers, technology stuff, cars, politics, and blogs that talk about food in Penang.

Some people ask me : " Why you know so much about computers even you don't study them ?" My answer is because I hate it when people LIES to me ! This does not only apply to being CON when I purchased computer stuff (years ago when I got my first Pentium III computer), but also in my life. Some people tell you one thing but in fact they are telling the opposite, or only half truth.

For example, some LCD monitor manufacturer will quote a very high contrast ratio on its LCD monitor but actually it is nothing but a trick to con consumer who didn't do research prior to their purchase but solely depend on the specs provided by the manufacturer. The term "dynamic contrast ratio" is a term to lie to people about how good is their LCD monitor, but "native contrast ratio" is the accurate way of measuring how good a LCD monitor can perform in dark scenery.

The biggest lie in this century would be "Study hard, get a good job, work hard and you will be rich. " This advice often comes out from the parents or teachers but I don't blame them because they are saying this without realizing that is a lie that no longer hold true in this era. This might be true in the 70s when the parents are taught so but certainly not now.

Many of us have fallen into the "Rat Race" as described by Robert Kiyosaki in his book "Rich Dad, Poor Dad". The most well-spent time in my holiday would be the 8 hours reading this book. When I read, I also think of what he had said and look around me and finds that it is just so true. We always think of "work for money" so that we can afford to buy a nice car, house, home there, luxury item and so on. When there is not enough money to satisfy our need, we just work harder, for a better car, larger house, and more expensive luxury items. Our life is dedicated to
1) working for someone else, live on our paycheck as the only source of income
2) working for the bank, paying loan
3) working for the government, paying taxes

Reading his book really give me insights into the importance of financial planning once I got my first paycheck. If paying RM35 to buy his book is too much to you, why not spend a whole day in MPH and just read his book, or use your internet wisely (I pay RM85 per month ok) and download his ebook somewhere. I do agree with what he said " being poor, middle class or rich depends on you", it's your choice to fall into the "Rat Race" trap, working your whole life and ending realized you are in the middle of no where when you retire or to achieve financial freedom and retire early. If your answer is " I am not interested in money" then you are lying to me and I hate you. If you are not interested in money then why you still work for money ?

Robert Kiyosaki's Rich Dad's Cash Flow Quadrant is another good book to read after you finish reading the first book Rich Dad, Poor Dad. This is probably the longest posting in my blog...

Multi-touch Interface Design

With all the hype about iPhone 3G, many didn't realized that the multi-touch interface design is not a new thing that is invented by Apple. The technology has been long exist, but not yet developed or still in developing stage by the major player in software and hardware field. HP has already come out with a new desktop HP TouchSmart PC that utilized this technology.

Imagine in the future, your computer is just a piece of plastic and you can control it by using 2 or even 10 of your fingers at the same time doing all sorts of things without the old-style mouse clicking, just like what you saw in the movie Minority Report by Tom Cruise, I believe this is the future. Look at the following video and you will definitely say "wow" in not less than 5 times !

Penang Butterfly Farm

I don't remember when was the last time I went there, my impression from what other people told me last time on the Penang Butterfly Farm is just a place full of butterflies flying around you and just that, nothing special. Well, I am WRONG ! Never see never know, I am quite surprise when I saw so many other things inside, in which butterflies is just 10% of what you are about to see in the Butterfly Farm.

Wayne Rooney and Carlos Tevez are both good players but they are not Ruud van Nistelrooy, a lethal finisher ! Come on man... it is time to open your cheque book and get players like David Villa, Huntelaar, Eto or Henry. My personal favourite would be David Villa, providing the final touch which is so important than having various talents in the midfield creating chances but no one can put an end to it...

Cristiano Ronaldo please come back ASAP ! It would be great if MU can splash the cash and get both David Villa and David Silva, MU would become a dream team by then, Glory Glory Man United !

Titi Kerawang

Nowadays it is so hard to find a waterfall in Penang, and it is even harder to find a waterfall with clean water for you to swim and enjoy the water falling down onto you giving you free massage. The waterfall at Botanical Garden no longer allow visitors to enter since about 10 years ago, and I have been looking for another waterfall since then.

Last Saturday I planned to pay a visit to Tropical Fruit Farm, but the admission fee really scares me away. It's RM 25 which includes a person to guide you around and a glass of fruit juice. Student price is only available if you come together as a group. I decided to take out my PDA and search MapKing if there was any other interesting place to go, and then I found out Titi Kerawang Waterfall, which is just a few minutes drive away from Tropical Fruit Farm.

The map to Titi Kerawang, after Teluk Bahang Dam, the two-way road is just like the size of a goat's intestine where you need to drive at a speed of less than 40 kph if you don't want to fall off from the mountain, unless you are driving a car with superb handling like Mini Cooper or Suzuki Swift Sport. Along the road you can find a lot of durian stals, but I don't know whether the price is cheaper than other places.

This will happen when the road is so small. I can't believe the bus driver managed to maneuver at this kind of road, really need a lot of experience and patience.

1 minute walk into the waterfall. See the large waterpipe ? It is one of the water supply source for Penangites.

Lower end

You need to climb over a few rocks to reach the upper end of the waterfall. It is not as nice as the Seven Wells Waterfall at Langkawi, but I am happy to find a waterfall with clean water.

A nice place to espace from the heat, especially it is free for all !

Teluk Bahang Dam, 2 weeks ago there was International Dragon Boat Competition, too bad I missed it. However, there were polices from various state competing on last Saturday.

My next stop is Penang Butterfly Farm which I can't remember when was the last time I went there. More details and photos will be posted later.

Arrived there at 9.45 a.m. Sunday, it took about an hour drive from Penang island. This is the first time I went there, so I wake up early in the morning (7.30 a.m.) because I thought I will be spending a lot of time at the waterpark, but it turns out to be a disappointment.

Eco Park and Orang Utan Island is more interesting than the waterpark, at least I can see animal that can rarely be seen in the city. I wonder who would invest to build a resort or hotel there, the lake is dirty, environment is just so-so, seriously not attractive enough to convince tourist to stay overnight. Entrance fee is expensive, I bought the Waterpark Combo for RM 39 which include entry into 4 places - Waterpark, Eco Park, Orang Utan Island, Chairlift or Skycycle. My advice to all people who aren't bringing their kids over there to just purchase the Eco Combo for RM 22 which include entry into 3 places - Eco Park, Orang Utan Island, Chairlift or Skycycle.

There is a food court which serve reasonably priced food. Waterpark is boring, may be kids will find it fun but I won't come back again.

Leave at 2.45 p.m., on the way back to Penang explored Bukit Tambun for its famous seafood, disappointed again by Howe Kee Seafood Restaurant, so many flies surrounding us, the fish and prawn we ordered are nothing special, perhaps next time I will try the one near the jetty.

Bon Odori is Buddhist holiday that originated in Japan to pay tribute to the ancestral spirits. The customs of this festival varies from one region to another but the traditional celebration includes a Bon dance with people dancing to the tune of musicians and singers of the Obon music around a wooden building.

History says that Mokuren, a disciple of Shakyamuni, approached Buddha when he saw his dead mother indulging in low activities in a vision. According to Buddha’s advice, he organized a feast for the dead ancestors and attained happiness after realizing his mother’s acts of kindness in the past. From his dance of joy, Bon Odori or "Bon Dance” evolved. The religious custom soon became popular among all the communities in Japan and became the avenue of celebration in summer.

Features of Bon Odori Festival in Penang

- Organized by the Japanese Expatriate & Immigrant's Society in Malaysia, Bon Odori Festival in Penang, however is observed in a smaller dimension as compared to that in Japan.
- Interestingly enough, this festival today reflects more Japanese culture than the inherent principles of Buddhism.

High class people, loud speaker, follow the latest trend in fashion, can consult him if you need to buy new clothing because his taste is very good. Rich guy, got many rich friends too who will give him birthday present that is worth more than RM 1000, so no matter what I am able give him also uncomparable, therefore I decided to give him a strawberry which I had to fight among many others in a buffet lunch to get one, it is more meaningful because this one you got money also cannot get hahaha...anyway he still owe me an abalone + NO meal

Pros: Presentation "diamond" medalist, extraodinary desigining skill and work rate, will share good stuff to other people

Cons: Always threaten to boycott people, willing to spend money to buy something which looks nice/special but not worth the money paid.

Have friendssssssssssss all over Malaysia and the world. Your morning is his nightime, rarely saw him in the class attending lecture but he is gifted with the godlike limbic system that can memorized everything he read in the past 24 hours. He is a satellite that can spy on you even he is 100000km away from you, so beware if you are gonna said anything bad about him and then you will received a "death" threat SMS from him...

Pros: Erm...probably drive me to Shangri-La hotel FOC once

Cons: May keep people wating for him because of requring at least 1 hour in shower and another 30 minutes to dress up, style his hair etc...

Chia Whey

Need to sacrify his time just because of a module called Pharmacist as Health Professional, kinda like moral studies in your high school, IMU should have been more linean to him... His outlook is like a "lala chai", especially when he dyed his hair in golden colour, whoa patients in the hospital will not dare to disobey his instructions on taking medicine when he became pharmacist.

Practical way to save from pumping petrol

Most of the cars, such as Honda City and Kelisa do not really need to pump in petrol with RON 97 rating. With the rising petrol price, we can save by using RON92 if our vehicle can use it (please read your car's user manual to find out).
The current price of RON 92 is RM 2.62, which is cheaper by RM 0.08 compared to RON97. It may ends up you can save a lot in the long term if you choose RON92 from now on.
Example a person pump in 100L of fuel per month, total savings per month = RM 8, per year = RM 96.
Only problem is that not many petrol stations sell RON92 petrol, I mostly go to Esso at Dato Keramat Road or Mobil at Jalan Masjid Negeri, Penang to pump in RON92 for both my Kelisa and Honda motorbike.

My opinion on this PDA:

1) Processor speed is almost the same as ASUS P750, but it has more RAM (192 MB vs 64 MB), and comes with 4 GB of internal storage which is lacking in P750.

2) The screen is VGA, which means that it has better resolution than conventional PDA with QVGA screen. Thus you can see a sharper and clearer image on your PDA.

3) USB 2.0 allows you to transfer files from your computer faster than USB 1.1, saving your precious time.

4) Camera with auto focus is great for taking a decent photo, will be better if it comes with flash light.

Retail price tag = RM2,799, available in Malaysia market in June 2008.

Conclusion : Will wait for its price to drop to RM 2000 and depend on my requirement in the future, may be a good choice to replace my current HTC Touch.

That day I found out that my camera can take good photo in dark condition, with the appropriate setting (Night Scenery Mode). If my hand shake or the camera isn't in a steady support the shutter speed will be reduced to 1/8 s. However, when I set the timer to 2 s and left the camera on a steady place the shutter speed will be increase to 1 - 4 s automatically and the photo is brighter and clearer. So happy with this camera, I made a good decision at buying the Panasonic TZ-15!

Beautiful, clear and clean sea. It is the first time I saw a sea which is so clear, like what I always see from National Geographic. Scuba diving is so exciting, you can see all the fishes swimming around you, coral, turtle, shark and Nemo!

Went to KLCC for the first PC fair of 2008

Went to Endah Parade, where I saw people "feeding" their leg to a fish or poisoning the poor fish with their smelly legs.

Chicken Buffet, price per person increased from RM 14.90 to RM 19.90 in just 3 years time!

Overall, what I can say about the camera of HTC Touch is a real simple camera with the ability to capture a 2 Mega pixel photo. All the photos that I took were set to 1 Mega pixel. I would say the even my 2005 model K750i Sony Ericsson handphone with Auto Focus performs better than a year 2007 PDA phone with camera.

Kajang Sizzling Taufu

Went to Kajang together with Han Ping on one night after the exam. That is one of his "ita" day, so it should be Wednesday of last week. At first we went to eat the spicy pan mee, which is basically pan mee with soup which taste spicy, not so special IMO... and then we called out Yee Yin who stays somewhere in a Kajang (she got a new house!), was expecting her to "belanja" us but being gentlemen end up we divide the bill equally.

It is kinda weird when you go to a restaurant and just ordered this Sizzling Taufu, so we decide to order 1 big plate of fried mee to share together.

Well, this Sizzling Taufu in one of the restaurant in Sungai Chua, Kajang, doesn't disappointed me at all, it is very delicious! The sauce is tasty, plus the minced meat and fried egg together with the taufu is just a perfect combination. The other important thing is that it is cheap which cost only RM 8. I hope to have another chance to go back there with my gang friends, this is highly recommended my me - Penang "Ho Chiak" blogger certified nice food.

Perodua Kelisa RON

On the oil lid cover there was only a sticker stating "Use only unleaded petrol". Then I go to read the user manual, it advised Kelisa car to be filled with RON 90 or above.

I am thinking of trying to use RON 92 to see whether there is any difference in power and fuel consumption. Hope that it won't damage my car's engine because my CLK (Cute Little Kelisa) had been using RON 97 all the while. Although it is just RM 0.04 sen difference (RM 1.88 vs RM 1.92), if RON 92 can give me more saving, mileage and power I think why not give it a try?

Petrol RON and your car's engine

Over the weekend, the new Minister of Domestic Trade & Consumer Affairs gave an overview of a new approach for the petroleum business which will see a change in the grades of petrol (referred to as RON, or Research Octane Number).

If the proposal is implemented, the present grades of RON92 (also referred to as 'Regular') and RON97 (Super), which have been at the pumps for decades, will be replaced by RON95 and RON99. It is likely that the increase in RON will justify an increase in the price per litre, unavoidable since oil prices are very high now and the government subsidies have become a heavier burden.

According to the minister, RON92 has been used 'mainly by motorcycles' but he is probably misinformed by his technical advisers. RON92 is also suitable for many modern engines and even the latest Honda models such as the Civic and CR-V sold in Malaysia are tuned to use RON91 so RON92 is not a problem (in fact, some Honda models sold in Indonesia are even tuned for RON88). All Perodua models are tuned to run on RON90 and that is a very large number of cars on the road. Those who can use RON92 can save a few sen per litre which, over the long term, still represents a saving in motoring costs (enough for one roti canai breakfast a week!)

Many motorists have not purchased cheaper RON92 even though their car engine may be able to use it either through ignorance, lack of understanding and even being discouraged by pump attendants who often call this grade of fuel 'Lama' (old). However, there are also valid reasons why some motorists have avoided RON92 even though it can be used for their car. This concerns the additives in RON92 petrol which vary from company to company. The additives are a vital part of the formulation and help to keep the inside of the engine (especially the fuel delivery system) clean so it runs efficiently. It is these additives, upgraded from time to time, which are often the subject of advertising claims of 'cleaner running', 'better fuel economy', etc.

The thing is that because it was perceived in earlier years that RON92 was used by 'low-tech' engine like marine engines, lawnmowers and motorcycles, the petroleum companies felt that it was unnecessary to spend extra money on additives and according to a source in one company, there is almost no additive in that company's RON92 petrol.

Companies like Chevron Malaysia do, however, provide an identical additive package (which the company calls 'Techron') for both grades of their Caltex fuel. As such, the superior benefits which are advertised are not limited only to the RON97 grade. The other company known to also adopt the same approach was ProJet, which is no longer in business here.

Statistically, it may be that the limited number of pumps offering RON92 has led decision-makers to conclude that this grade is 'not in great demand' when in fact, carmakers have been heading in the direction of lower RON for many years now.

The proposed new grade of RON95 is, nevertheless, a good compromise and should be fine for the majority of cars on Malaysian roads. This grade has been a popular one with Japanese manufacturers, possibly because in Japan, their Regular grade has been RON95 for a long time.

The other part of the proposal is to introduce a higher grade of RON99 in place of RON97, which does not make much sense. It will cost more to produce for one thing and less than 1% of all vehicles here would require such a high octane. Even high-performance engines like the Volkswagen/Audi/Skoda FSI engine, the 1.6-litre engine of the Suzuki Swift Sport and the 1.8-litre engine of the old Ford TX3 need only RON98 at most to run at optimum.

However, the interesting thing is that the government will provide a smaller subsidy for RON99 petrol because it is assumed that those who own cars which require such fuel can afford to pay more for their fuel. A larger proportion of the billions of RM in subsidies will be allocated for RON95 to keep its price down since a larger proportion of the rakyat will use it.

"The goal is to have subsidies targeted and more focused at those who need it, such as the lower income and middle income groups, and giving a choice to the rich on what petrol they want to fill in their tank," said Datuk Shahrir Samad, the minister.

High-performance models like the Civic Type-R, Swift Sport and Lancer Evo need high octane fuel (RON98) but such cars are sold in very small numbers in Malaysia

There are often misconceptions with regard to the technical aspects of high and low octane fuel so here's what it is all about. Firstly, if your car's engine is tuned and recommended by the manufacturer for a minimum of RON92, then you are not going to get increased performance using RON97 or RON99. Just because the octane is higher does not give you more 'power' because it does not work like that in combustion.

I hope that the new proposal will not be implemented, as I am looking forward to buy a new Suzuki Swift Sport, and this vehicle is best run on RON98. It will be unfair to called this car as rich man's car and ask the owner to pay more for the petrol because it only cost RM 95k, unlike Honda Civic Type R and Mitsubishi Lancer Evo which cost RM 200k above.

Recently there is a debate on pharmacist dispensing right at New Straits Times:

I am very disappointed at the wrong statement made by Dr. Milton Lum, in his letter he stated that:
"The only healthcare providers who see and treat adverse drug reactions are doctors. Nurses also see adverse drug reactions and they assist doctors in treating them. However, pharmacists do not usually have practical knowledge about adverse drug reactions unless they are practising in hospitals, where they may see and assist doctors."
and
"Drugs are prescribed and dispensed by doctors. Some are branded drugs while others are generics. Many branded drugs do not have generic equivalents. Not all generics have the same efficacy as the branded drugs. It is a fact that the bioequivalence of most generics are unknown, unlike the branded drugs. "

The above 2 statement clearly shows that he is not fully aware of pharmacist capability and make absolute wrong statement which shows that he apparently don't know what is meant by bioequivalence, and the process of a generic getting approved by National Pharmaceutical Control Bureau (NPCB).

Those doctor who object pharmacist dispensing right are just afraid of losing their means of getting extra income from dispensing drugs. Sounds familiar ? It is just like those UMNO conies who are afraid of losing their contracts when people say want to start open tender system. They will give various excuses like no 24 hours pharmacy, troublesome etc… which is just plain nonsense, but I do agree that some people living in rural area will have difficulty in getting medication, thus I would say it is ok for those doctor serving in rural area to dispense, but not those in urban city!

Things like drugs can be get at a cheaper price in a clinic was due to the fact that doctors do get a better deal/discount on some drugs compared with pharmacist, reasons? Ask those pharmaceutical company. Moreover, a doctor can get earn through consultation fee, but there is no consultation fee for seeing a pharmacist, therefore pharmacist will need to earn through other way.

Doctor do study Pharmacology, but how much do they learn compared with a Pharmacist ? I know how to drive a car and M.Schumacher also know, but the difference is the driving skill he has got is more than me…that is the main point, both Dr and RPh have different specialized skills and they work together for the benefit of patients!

To all Malaysian, medication error can be very minor, but it can also be life-threatening. Pharmacist is your another barrier for preventing this from happening, pharmacist with dispensing right will be a win-win situation for all of us.

HTC Touch White

Bought a second hand HTC Touch White for RM 1200 recently. A new one cost about RM 1688. After that only realized that quite a few users had the problem with screen misalignment problem, including myself. Since my PDA phone is still under warranty, I decided to send it to HTC service centre at Lowyat Plaza.

The service was efficient, I just sent it for repair on Wednesday and get a SMS on Friday morning to ask me collect it. I am so glad that they also replaced a new front casing for me because I scratched it accidentally when I am trying to open the casing to put in the SIM card for the first time. Initially I asked for the replacement but the person in-charge said that isn't possible, anyway they did replaced it for me at the end haha... but I need to buy a new screen protector for RM 20 because they replaced the whole screen without replacing the screen protector for me, anyway later I found out they gave me a 1GB micro SD for free :) I was trying to put in my own 2GB micro SD then I thought the slot was "stuck", actually it is due to there is a card inside there.

Now I am happy with this PDA phone after getting use to it. 201MHz processor speed isn't that slow to me, now I can install all the Medical Programs e.g. Micromedex, Skyscape, Sanford Guide, Lexi-Comp etc... it is just so useful !

I want cheap car !

Surf through the net and I found this letter from Malaysiakini.
Look at how the government are treating us the rakyat so unfairly and how lucky are those US citizens. Is true that they don't have fuel subsidized, but with the the extra money you need to buy a basic car, you can already buy petrol for at least 20 years usage! Not to mention there are no toll in US, unlike in Klang Valley area.

Do you like the new eighth generation Honda Civic? I guess everyone would fall in love with it at the first sight and it is not expensive either - at least not in the US.

In US, you can buy the 1.8cc model Honda Civic at RM56,832 (US$15,360 x 3.7). Yes, cheaper than Proton Gen 2 or slightly higher in price than Perodua’s Myvi. In Malaysia, to own the new Civic, you will have to pay RM114,000 for the 1.8 model and RM128,000 for the two litre model.
To protect the inefficient national car companies, the government imposes ridiculously high taxes on cars, making Malaysia the nation with most expensive car prices in the world. Because of the national car project, Malaysians have suffered for more than 20 years. In the same price range as the Americans, we can only buy a low quality national cars with obsolete design and technology.

Who are actually benefiting from the national car project? It is not the people. Well, it is not a secret that those who get rich are the well-connected cronies who own the car parts companies that supply inferior yet expensive components to the national car company.

Some of the cronies do not even own a factory; they just merely act as middlemen by sourcing cheap parts and supplying it at exorbitant prices. Many national car owners would tell you their sorrowful experiences with the quality of the national car. Our national car company cannot even export 10,000 cars a year. In Thailand, a foreign direct investment car company exported more than 400,000 cars last year.

The very sad part is due to high prices, many Malaysian who want to own a car are forced to buy small cars like the Kancil which have no proper safety features like ABS or airbags. You will be shocked with the fatality rate of these type of compact cars when they meet with accidents.

In the US, a fresh graduate can buy the eight generation Honda Civic with about four to six months of his salary. In Malaysia, a low quality and obsolete national car costs more than 20 months salary.

It is time for Malaysian to say enough is enough. We do not need a national car project. We want to buy a decent car at a reasonable price.

Let us speak in one voice, together. We must tell our arrogant political servants which we voted in to manage this country every five years. We must demand that they act for our well-being or we will vote them out the next term!

Do you know that we need to pay about 60% in tax to get a basic car? Look at the price in Langkawi and compared it to Peninsular Malaysia. A 1.8G Corolla Altis cost RM 118 k in Peninsular Malaysia but only RM 73k in Langkawi. It is a RM45k difference, which goes to the tax and Advanced Permit (AP) !
It is so unfair, majority of Malaysia earn less than RM 3k per month and the car price is so high, even higher than in Australia where they earn more but can get a car at a lower price.

Yesterday my car battery died, cost me RM 220 total to change a new one, so expensive !
Signs and symptoms of my car battery in its end-of-life - Power windows winds down slower than usual.
There are two type of car battery- Dry or Wet .
According to the mechanics, dry one offer a lot of benefit, other than you don't need to take care of it , e.g. adding water into the wet battery. He told me that the battery that he installed into my car was imported one, I thought it was from Japan, but when I asked him he said it was from Philippines... Don't know is it good or not ?

Service charge to call the mechanics to come to my house = RM 25.

Luckily the battery "kong" when at home, Wednesday night it was nothing unusual when I went to MidValley.

I paid RM 40 (usual RM 27) for bus ticket from KL to Penang on Friday evening. Those operator claimed that it was an extra bus, and Konsortium only got 11 pm bus at that time. Even though it was apparently overpriced ticket which they wanted to make extra profit, I am still willing to pay to vote for the first time, to show my dissatisfaction towards the BN government over the pass 4 years (or even more).

8th of March 2008 after lunch, vote for the first time in my life, exercised my right as a voter. The party who disappointed me all this while of course didn't get my vote in both state and Parliament seat. While I am having dinner at a kopitiam around 8 p.m., I had already heard people talking about DAP had won all their seats, which I felt so shocked and pleased at the same time, but still I think it is impossible for DAP to win so big at that time. If that is the case then RM 40 I paid is well spend.

UK, February 19, 2008 - The Blu-ray and HD-DVD format war is now officially over, with Toshiba today announcing it's to discontinue support for its HD-DVD technology.

A series of blows has dented the high-definition DVD format in recent weeks: Warner Bros. being the most recent major film studio to pledge its allegiance to rivals Blu-ray and US supermarket giant Wal-Mart ceasing to stock HD-DVD. Following such moves, Toshiba has announced that promotion for the technology will now come to an end and shipments of players and recorders will wind down, the business looking to close by the end of the month. Speaking to the BBC, Toshiba president Atsutoshi Nishida said, "We concluded that a swift decision would be best."

Following HD-DVD's fleeting lifespan, analysts have praised the decision to discontinue, ultimately citing the news as a triumph for the consumer, no longer needing to gamble on a losing format, and for Toshiba, now able to concentrate on pioneering in other areas. This optimism has been reflected in the share price of the electronics company, rising by 5.7% yesterday.

Whilst the news is clearly a massive boon for Sony, with its PlayStation 3 built around Blu-ray support, Microsoft – who had been backing HD-DVD – yesterday made a statement claiming the fall of the format would not impact in any significant way the Xbox 360.

Previously I had wrote about the bad experience at Sri Petaling Proton Edar when Proton Persona was launched. Today I again went to take a look at the new Proton Saga, it make me feels that basically all the salesman at this Proton Edar branch are arrogant !

Here is how it started, I sat into the car and take a feel of its interior, and then a salesman, called T, in his mid 40's approached me :

T: Hey boss, what model are you interested in? Auto or Manual?

Me: Oh, I am just looking...

T: If just want to look don't want to buy then no need to look la, just waste your time only, go do business la, earn more money.

I laugh at the salesman, then I straight away walk out and swear that I will never come back to this place. It was so funny that to see a salesman trying to piss his customer off in just 5 seconds. Is there any wrong just for looking at this car ? He don't like his boss for not paying him bonus and trying to revenge by turning customers away ?

I was so shocked at what he mentioned, is this how a salesman should treat their potential customer? Last time when Proton dominated the market due to tax protection, this was the story you will frequently heard, " take it or leave it " from arrogant salesman. Now, probably due to good sales on this new model they became arrogant again. Who can provide me the direct line to the Proton's CEO ? I am thinking of calling him ! This kind of arrogant salesman are just tarnishing the already bad image of Proton.

Personally I think Proton had done a great job under the new management, this Saga is just worth considering for those lower income group and the quality was acceptable for price at 30-40k, but if this is how their salesman going to treat their customer, then I hope you can just close shop in future, you have made all Malaysians to suffer for more than 20 years to pay so much for a car and now it is time for us to get a better car at cheaper price.

IMU vanished !

One day, when I looked out to the window, to my horror IMU was missing. IMU is located just in front of my Vista C condominium's window, about 100 meters distance. What had happened ? David Copperfield magic ?

Building on the left is Vista Komanwel B, directly in front is Vista C clubhouse.

At first I thought there was fire in IMU, luckily it wasn't. Anyway if there was fire it doesn't matter to me because I won't be attending classes until March :P

Cloverfield Movie Review

I watched this movie last Friday, thinking it is an exciting movie to watch when the statue of freedom's head got broken, so I decided to spend RM 7 on to watch it in GSC cinema. The first 15 minutes was just nonsense where a guy will be holding a video camera interviewing people what they want to talk about on a guy who is getting married. You will be watching the whole movie as if you are the video camera. I felt dizzy when the movie was just started and luckily it was not a long movie, just around 75 minutes. If you got motion sickness, I would suggest you to take Novomin first before entering the hall or just watch other movie.

This movie was a huge disappointment, probably the worst movie in year 2008 that I am watching in cinema. Storyline is ok, but screen play and ending is just crap. The screen just moves around like mad and there were a few instances you are just looking at the floor. The ending is very simple, it ends when the video camera was destroy by a bomb, which blast the whole Manhattan. Wtf, it is just not worth the RM 7 ! Next time I will wait other people to watch movie first then let them to recommend me which one to watch.

This is not a case presentation!

Patient was an Indian guy, 74 years old. Suffered from ESRD, DM, HPT and left leg cellulitis. He was a very kind man who talked to me when I was clerking his case. This is the first time I talked to a real patient, rather than a simulated one in IMU CSU.
He told me that he used to work as an army accountant. He was also involved in the politics in his younger age, and he knows a lot of politician such as Karpal Singh, Lim Kit Siang, Lee Lam Thye and even Tunku Abdul Rahman (according to him is his neighbour) and Lee Kuan Yew ! wow...

While he was working in the army, someone offered him a bribe, but he rejected it. I was thinking if I was him, will I accept bribe? In army department, I believe the amount to bribe for something, such as modifying the account detail in purchasing of weapons could easily gave you millions of ringgit, but he rejected it.

Shall he had accepted the money, he would be probably now receiving treatment in a private hospital first class ward fitted with air-cond, personal toilet and personal room, with Indonesian maid take caring him, washing his legs. But he choose not to, and now had to stay at HKL's warm and uncomfortable ward, still looking for a haemodialysis centre because he cannot afford to pay RM 2000 per month for it. That is a lot for someone who is not working anymore and no children to pay for him.

If you were him, will you accept the bribe ? Those minister who cheated the people for so much money can live happily ever after when they retired but those who choose to be honest got this kind of ending ? How come god is so unfair to good people ?
